The Village Library
The Guildhall is home to Finchingfield Library, one of a few volunteer run community based facilities as part of Essex County Council Libraries.
We have an extensive stock of fiction and non- fiction books, audio books and spoken word for children, young adults and adults. We hold some local history linked items and books by famous local authors such as Dodie Smith and Eliza Vaughan. We offer many services as with main libraries across Essex including requesting books and spoken word, topic based and group loans.
A laptop and printer/scanner is available for free use by Library members. Printing charges apply and are in line with ECC Libraries.
Finchingfield St. John the Baptist Primary School visits on a regular basis and also uses the Library for a variety of educational activities. Periodically, we hold special events including ‘meet the author’, character day and themed days.
We are the official distribution point of Braintree District Council recycling bags on behalf of Finchingfield Parish Council.
Our village Library, which has been in the Guildhall since the early 1950s, is a welcoming and unique facility suitable for all ages. Membership is totally free, so why not come along (with proof of identity) and join us? You will be most welcome.
Story and song time sessions are temporarily postponed- lookout for news on our Library Facebook page.
